Default Buy/Sell/Trade in game improvement.

My only game beef is about the in game trade system. Unfortunately I’m not a speed reader and when I’m looking for that 20% item I have to strain against the pink writing at text that is scrolling by pretty quickly. Lion’s Arch D1 seems the place to Buy/Sell/Trade and it is impossible for me to read that fast.
I was thinking instead of making a player type out the description of an item in Trade/Chat window maybe as part of inventory or some part of the GUI we could submit the item to the sell engine. The engine could then parse the items data and post it in the Trade section. The Trade section could have filters, implemented as checkboxes just an example. This would allow the buyers to filter for just what they want ex: Warrior, Monk etc could be a check box and only the check box (s) selected would show in the trade window.

Just a thought…

Just scroll up slightly to prevent the text going by. Then scroll down at your leasure. Problem solved. I have no problems with trading.

Thats exactly what I do as well. Although a built in trade system would be nice. I have heard that it exists in other games.

And a auction house / player shop would prevent the fun and excitement of buying and selling. Items would all have standard prices and would prevent finding a bargain. I could also imagine people constantly lowering their prices to compete with other sellers and would lead to a massive fall in item prices.

The three legitimate ways of making gold are running, farming and trading. And farming has been nerfed to hell and the introduction of a auction / shop system would imo ruin trading as you can no longer get a bargain.

Well, the way trading is now is efficient, yes, but it can become bothersome. I say the best thing to do is use forums and post what items you want. :\

But yes, if there were some way to put this into the game, I'd say an auction house which filtered the items depending on class (and for those misc. items such as ectoplasm, a "misc," filter), would work best.

What I had in mind was not an auction house but more of a way for a buyer to filter out the thousands of items to maybe a few hundred to make it easier to find what I want. I guess maybe instead of a trade engine I should have said a item parser. In simple form it would translate the description of an item to text that could be pasted into the Trade window. You can add your own comments at the end but if the beggining was standard then a filter could be applied.
Example I'm a ranger looking for a bow, you are a Monk selling a sword.
At the present the Monk types out the description into the trade and/or chat window. There sort of a standard to describe the sword but not everyone uses it. Now lets say I can let the game translate the description into text, it might read [Warrior],[Sword],[11-22] etc... The filter engine could filter it out because the Ranger is has checker RANGER. The Trade window could filter out the Sword sort of like the current bad word filter.

Still just a thought.

Easiest way to deal with the fast scrolling in LA district 1 - go to dist. 2, 3, etc. (same goes for Ascalon City & Droknar's) I've spent a lot of time selling off materials & weapons and I don't even bother with dist. 1 because of all the chat traffic. The chances of finding the item you're looking for is probably better in those districts because you can actually read the text!

As an economics student I must say I'd go for the auction system. I'm not an übergamer of guild wars (partly because I got fed up with trying to get items traded) but I've noticed the folowing flaws in the trading system:

1. At the moment the seller has more information about the real costs of finding an item. This results in a virtual monopoly where the seller is able to get some of the utility that would otherwise go for the buyer. As in all monopolies this results in lower quantities sold with higher prices compared to a perfect market situation (of which an auction is a close simulation). This reduces the overall utility of the community.
2. Though the seller has some monopoly power he/she also faces the trade off between the time in which an object can be sold and the price he/she gets for it. This trade off is very visible in the market for low-grade low-price items. Selling them with any price is almost impossible. The result is a market where only high-grade items are sold. This is bad for low level and newbie characters. For me the whole trade process is really boresome. To find a suitable item not to speak of selling one takes hours of time and scrolling the chat... A global auctioning system where you can leave your item until it's sold would correct this problem. Also low-price items would be available when you wouldn't need any time to sell them. In economics jargony: the markets would clear faster and with less effort.
3.The information gap also hurts the newbies and people who don't want to put hours of time for getting the true information of the state of the market. When you don't know the realistic price of an item you inevitably pay too much/sell too cheap.

To the critique of an auction system:
1. It would lower the prices. Inevitably yes but to the level of the real rarity of the item. No one is forced to sell with a price too low. People would sell with the price that equals the marginal cost (time used farming/finding the item etc.) of "producing" the item. The result would be a system where the community as a whole would be better off.
2."ye in others games there are player shops , which sucks cause ppl will stay afk selling stuff and fill up all servers causing lag." The system should be such that you can leave the items you are selling in to the "auction house" and quit the game if you want. When some one would buy the item you're selling the gold would directly go to your account. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Sorry 'bout the lecture. Maybe I've just been reading too much of my books and playing too little guild wars.=)

Project Entropia has a good auction house as well as player shops. GW could do much worse than just copy theirs. Check it out, it is a free download and free to play (although you have to 'buy' credits to really get anywhere in the game, so cash outta your pocket either way.) Look around the 'Deluxe Moblie Service Center' for the Auctioneer and double click on them. Click and hold both mouse buttons to walk, it took me about 2 hours to figure this out on my own :/

ps, it is much inferior to GW in graphics, storyline, gameplay, etc etc in my opinion. The trade system is definitely worth a look.
